How To Use A French Press Coffee Maker
If you are a strong coffee lover, then definitely you must have heard about French Press. Popularly known as press pot or coffee press, a French press has the feature of producing a stronger coffee as compared to other coffee making devices.
A French press is also known for its easy usage, and thus even a new coffee lover can get his hands on one, and experiment it till his coffee making skills reach his desired perfection. The filter for the French press is a nylon mesh or a fine wire which is inside the “plunger” which has been fit into the cylinder. The cylinder is made of clear plastic or glass and has a lid attached to it.
Water and coffee are placed together and after a few minutes of brewing the plunger is depressed to separate the coffee which is at the lower part of the jug.
One of the most important parts of making coffee with French pot is the use of grinder. One tablespoon per cup is enough for a semi-strong coffee. It is extremely important to add coffee to the pot immediately after grinding. If you start getting the aroma from it, then probably it’s going stale.
Adding of pre-boiled water should be preferred, as by the time you add it, the temperature would be near to perfection. Water should be added steadily, over all grounds and saturating the coffee fully. If you have done the previous step correctly, then you will see a small bloom developing. Now let the filters do their job, but also know how much water you must pour in the pot.
You can use a chopstick to stir the slurry quickly. This is not necessary, but it helps in the complete extraction. A mediocre six to seven stirs should result in a good bloom. For an average sized French pot a steeping time of three or four minutes is preferred, so after you have seen the bloom, assemble the filter into the pot and start the countdown.
After the steep time is complete, take hold of the handle of the filter firmly and plunge it down. You should press it down in a controlled and even way, making sure that the plunger rod is always kept straight. If the straight way is disrupted, the grounds may find their way to the top portion.
Now, that your coffee is almost ready comes the most delighting part of the coffee making process i.e. pouring. Yes! I know we all enjoy pouring out the beautiful bloomed coffee out of the maker and see it getting ready in the cup. With a French pot, the pouring must be done steadily and the lid should be held tightly so that it doesn’t come out accidentally.
Now, after your twenty minutes of hard work, sit down, relax and enjoy your cup of coffee which is ready and beautiful!
You can also change some of the steps as you please, to achieve your personalized coffee, but make sure that everything else is done correctly. Okay! Enough of reading how to make a nice coffee through French pot, now go and start making one!
